bell hooks

i love the cool air that filters into my room at night...i leave my window cracked open and in the dead neighborhood i hear one or two cars go by but everything is suspended in the sky devoid of light,

i hear the whispering, the rattling of voices in my ear...the whir of the fan blades which i leave running even in fifty degree weather...

when i think about the breeze i can't bear to go to math class, where the seats are like pews in a church and the projector is a pulpit where i am preached to about x's and y's and i think about chromosomes...how fortunate i was to have another x and not a y....and how humans are related to chimps and how i crave a banana and how east germany couldn't even get bananas during the cold war and how cold it is outside, and i love it

bell hooks is doing a reading on feminism at ruby diamond on monday...bless the feminist who is a woman to all, god bless her
