seethingblue's Diaryland Diary

migration

glancing over Byzantine architecture then to Romanesque, early Gothic, late Gothic- cathedrals and cathedrals, South Cloister of Gloucester-

i saw cathedrals once- with tombs beneath the flooring- and little girls beside the narrow roads in navy knee-socks and scuffed mary-janes

and i composed poetry that rhymed once, slow and steady, words folded up into my tongue, mashed against the soft pink of my upper gums-

my mother was pulling me tight to her on the subway, while two men pirouetted to "I want to dance with somebody" from a minature boombox in an airport near the island- near the city- little girls in their bare feet, mosquito bites like tattoos across their legs

i gathered green coconuts that had fallen off the tree premature, we used these as softballs across the lawn- and my mother inspected our hair every night- looking closely for ticks
